Renown Women in the Bible

January 13, 2007

Here are just a few scriptures relating to a few reknown women in the
Bible.

Elizabeth – Mother of John the Baptist

“There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest
named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the
daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both
righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances
of the Lord blameless. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was
barren, and they were both well advanced in years.” LUKE 1:5-7

Sarah – Wife of Abraham

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and
she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him
faithful who had promised”. HEBREWS 11:11

Hannah – Mother of Samuel

“The Lord has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. Therefore
I also have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives he shall be
lent to the Lord. So they worshiped the Lord there.”

1 SAMUEL 1:27-28

Ruth – Great Grandmother of David

“Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter! For you have shown more
kindness at the end than at the beginning, in that you did not go
after young men, whether poor or rich. And now, my daughter, do not
fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of
my town know that you are a virtuous woman.” RUTH 3:10-11

Lydia – Seller of Purple (Merchant)

‘On the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where
prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women
who met there. Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a
seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God. The
Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. And when
she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you
have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and
stay.” So she persuaded us.’ ACTS 16:13-15

Afternoon WalkThree hours on the computer and the need to get up and go out was on my mind.  The thought of ‘I’ll just do this’ then saying to my dog “in a minute” was too much.  I jumped up knowing I needed to stretch those legs of mine.  “Come on then” I shouts to Cindy.

I grabbed my camera having downloaded the previous shots the day before, dashed into the kitchen to get the dog lead, shuffled into my coat and practically ran out of the flat.

It was cold but dry; thank goodness.  We went down our usual path so I could let Cindy off her lead and relaxed for the first time that day.

It really was quite a windy day but the scenery in St. Ives, Cornwall stunning whatever the weather.

I have kept Cindy off the beach for quite a while not knowing if she was allergic to something, but she has been okay for a while.  As we aproached the harbour, Cindy ran ahead of me and with a yearning look in her eyes I gave in and we went onto the harbour beach.

For the next hour or so, I photographed the scenery whilst Cindy ran and burrowed into the sand.  We were both happy.

It has been a long time since I have been spontaneous like that and it was a treasure of an afternoon.
